Some areas she finds particularly rewarding are: relationship issues, stage of life transitions, grief and loss, trauma treatment, psychotherapy as well as depression and anxiety. She has experience in multiple settings from Hospice to inpatient psychiatric care to outpatient therapy. She has specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as Internal Family Systems (IFS) treatment models. These models were designed specifically to assist clients who have experienced trauma in their lives. Vicki has worked with clients whose traumas range from single incident events such as auto accidents or unexpected loss to lengthy exposure to abuse or stressors. She stresses with her client’s how the brain and body respond to trauma and ways to help the brain process information and return to healthy functioning. In addition to trauma work, Vicki also works with couples, anxiety and depression disorders and individuals who simply need someone to talk through life’s normal everyday stressors and challenges.

Individual and Couples Therapy:

Through her work with adults, Victoria also noted how current societal trends are stressing relationships. She has been trained in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy and Internal Family Systems: Intimacy from the Inside Out. Both of these models help couples reconnect emotionally, learn skills necessary for effective communication and develop connections that help buffer the strains and challenges of the 21st century.

During the first session:
Victoria conducts an interview to gather vital information while also developing a trusting relationship with each client. Rapport and a thorough understanding of a client’s history are the keys to her successful use of a variety of therapeutic methods including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychotherapy, Mindfulness and Meditation; Internal Family Systems Therapy, Guided Imagery, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

Clinical Experience –

In 1999 with 2 daughters in middle school Victoria decided to return to school to attain one of her life goals: to become a therapist. In 2001 she completed her BA in Psychology from UNC Charlotte and in 2003 she completed her Masters in Social Work. During her master’s studies she completed a 9 month internship at Hospice, a 4 month rotation on an in-patient psychiatric unit and a 4 month rotation in an intensive outpatient program/outpatient clinic. After graduation Victoria went on to work in local agencies providing outpatient treatment to adolescents and children in their homes as well as therapy in the school setting and eventually began treating adults in a clinic setting. Through her work with adult women in particular she realized the extent childhood abuse was contributing to poor adult functioning. This became Victoria’s passion and over the next 10 years she focused on learning about this field and seeking out specialized models of treatment that would provide the best outcomes. She has studied EMDR extensively and works with peer groups to hone her skills in this area. In addition she enhances her EMDR work with Internal Family Systems therapy to achieve even greater results. Victoria is certified in both of these models which means she takes additional courses every year and meets with senior level therapists for supervision to meet the certification requirements.

Professional Development –

Victoria works diligently to stay informed about the models of treatment she uses and the problems she helps her clients address. She attends 40-60 hours of trainings yearly (far more than the 40 required every 2 years for her license) and has had the opportunity to study directly with senior level trainers in EMDR, the founder of IFS as well as senior level trainers of this model and the founder of Intimacy From the Inside Out Couples Model. In the spring of 2016 she met with the founder of the couples model Intimacy From the Inside Out for the final Level II training and the founder of IFS for the final Level III training.

In addition she meets regularly with professionals in both the EMDR and IFS community for on-going peer support and education.
